To be able to submit an O45s team, the invitation was put out to our neighbouring clubs in Kent, with the aim of building a good-ability team playing under the banner of Herne Bay Hockey Club, that could challenge in this age bracket
We seem to have brought together a great bunch of ladies from Holcombe, Folkestone, Ashford, Maidstone, and KSports to join the 4 Herne Bay players (Ali, Sally, Sharon Di), and we have become a close-knit team who just love to play Masters Hockey
In our first match, we lost against Canterbury, but that allowed us to regroup and attack the Tier 2 competition with no expectations.
In the 1st round, we won 5 nil away to Burnt Ash O45. Shocked we moved on to round 2, another away match against Surbiton Sages. We won that too 4 nil. Every match we got to know each other a bit better, forming a really friendly team.
Round 3 (Quarter Finals!) is another away trip, this time to Cambridge. A harder match, but yet again a cohesive team we won 1-3. We could not believe it.
Semi-Finals beckoned, who would we get? .. Away (again) to Rugby & East Warwickshire O45s. Well, the long drive was worth it, a really tough match but we were triumphant winners 2-3. [during the teas afterwards, they told us there were last year's Tier 1 winners, so we were extra pleased with our performance and result!]
And here we are ... ready to go head-to-head with Wycombe O45s in the Finals at Lee Valley. Its going to be tough, but we (well I) are confident!!
If anyone wants to come and support us our match is at 11am , 4th May - Pitch 2.
