Folkstone 1s vs Herne Bay 1s
A home fixture for our folk person captain who was late for the meet having washed the wrong kit this week. Herne Bay turned up knowing they will have to put a shift in against an organised and quick, young opposition.
Folkstone opened the scoring with a quick goal within the 5-minute mark, leaving Bay a little shocked and needing to react to this setback. Bay replied with a perfect short corner routine that found a superbly positioned Sammy who finished with finesse leaving the Folkstone defenders and goalkeeper embarrassed. This made Folkstone want to attack and press and in this they did, with the game opening up and becoming stretched Folkstone scored a rebounded shot with a ZBL to the near post. Bay replied with a through ball played tactically off a shinpad from Mike to Matt who found space in the D and send a bullet into the far left corner. 2-2 at half-time.
Tiredness got the better of Bay in the second half and lost control of the game for a 10 minute period which saw Folkstone capitalise and score 2 goals while Herne Bay tried to get a winner and close the game off. Still trying to be positive in play and make the scoreline have a reflection on how well Bay were playing a number of opportunities were missed or disallowed; Pete needs to start from the 25 in order to make sure the umpires know the ball is coming out from a short corner, Matt needs to hit the ball into the goal after he's rounded a keeper(when a perfect pass is played the whole length of the pitch!) And as Craig gained the crown of the worst p flick taker in the men's 1s after he pushed into the keeper's leg to award him with the FIRST one and done trophy in the 1s.
Folkstone got another to make it 5-2 but with decisions going bad both ways, and the game becoming a boxing ring for Folkstone the game ended on a cheery note, earning a red card for the opposition.
Bay look to maintain their good performances, against a tough Gore Court team to build their way up the league.
