This weekend the Bay took on Ashford at the sports hub fresh from a confidence-boosting performance the previous week.
Bay started a little nervously and Ashford did a lot of the early running and pressing. The Bay should have been behind early doors but they could only watch as the Ashford striker could only nominate himself early for DOD by missing an open goal from only a couple of yards.
Ashford continued to press, the Bay defence stood firm, and when this was breached the keeper stood tall to keep Ashford at bay. The boys in blue started to see more of the ball and gain a foothold in the game with the Arron White aerial and pace of Sam Thompson causing the Ashford backline issues. The bay did take the lead from a short corner which Arron White flicked into the top corner. Both teams created chances but the Bay went in at halftime 1 up.
The second half began much like the first with Ashford pressing and they got an equaliser when they eventually beat the defence and passed the ball around the keeper to make it 1-1. The Bay didn't drop their heads and got back into the game even though Ashford continued to pile on the pressure. Sam Thompson continued his scoring streak this week, as he rounded the Ashford keeper and put the Bay back into the lead. Ashford had a few more chances and even asked if the keeper could stop saving them as they threw everything at the Herne Bay goal. Every player in blue put in a fantastic effort making tackles and disrupting play to try and hold on but unfortunately, Ashford did equalise through a penalty corner.
Final score 2-2, a well deserved and hard earnt point for the Bay.
MOM - WIGGY
