Herne Bay Ladies 3rd XI 2 - Tunbridge Wells ladies 4th 3
As the sun was setting over the Bay the ladies 3rd XI faced Tunbridge Wells 4th, having drawn with their 3rd XI a few weeks ago (although their 4ths are higher in the league
Today's warm-up did not include any hockey instead the Bay had moved what felt like 100 goals, so the game could start.
Wells came out strongly putting the Bays defence under pressure, but they held strong and kept the ball out of the goal.
With an abundance of youth on their side, they used the speed they had to their advantage, with player of the match Bea showing her versatility playing on the wing and centre of midfield. Martha was good at creating opportunities from the right of midfield, Lenny putting pressure on from the left-wing and Bex, Ava and Franka adding more strength to the midfield as well as helping out in defence.
Wells were able to sneak a goal past the Bays defence giving them the lead. The Bay pushed back and a short corner in the last minute of the first half saw a short corner stopped by Emma Elliott to Martha who's rebound was slotted in by Bea to see the score equal at halftime.
1 -1
Bay started the second half strong and their persistence played off a long pass from Nicola Holmes found Hannah Evans free in the D and she confidently slotted the ball the keeper giving us the lead.
Wells were determined to get back in the game and their constant attacks saw a goal sneak in.
The amazing defending from Sarah Symons, Nicole Yost, Hannah, Emma and Amanda Richardson-Jess frustrated Wells keeping the score level.
Unfortunately, a few minutes before the end of the game Wells managed to sneak a goal and give them the win.
Despite the final scoreline the Bay played well together and made Wells fight for the win.
Great support and organisation of subbing from Karen Atkinson.
Thank you, Philippa Mackinnon and Godders for umpiring, and anyone who came and supported us.
