Sunday morning saw the debut game for the U14 girls team at home against Burnt Ash. Despite a little help from the U12 team, we only had 10 for what was the first full-pitch game for most of the team.
Nevertheless the girls put in lots of effort and defended well against some sustained pressure from the Burnt Ash side, including some great saves from goalie Kendra. Unfortunately, Burnt Ash did manage to score a goal but the Bay girls put together a beautifully worked short corner resulting in Emily putting the ball past the keeper to bring the score level.
A positive team talk at half time and the girls went out battling hard in the second half. As the half drew on, lack of substitutes started to take its toll and there were some tired legs. Burnt Ash managed to get 2 more goals and despite several great attempts by the Bay girls, they were unable to increase their goal tally.
Final score was a 3-1 loss.
There were a number of impressive performances and the man of the match vote was a very close 3-way tie right up to the end but a very deserving Emily clinched it by one vote.
Special mention to Alistair MacKinnon and Sarah Dengate for umpiring and to the legend that is Michael Lunn for coaching/shouting with Manager Sally Pywell on the side line.
Other special mention to Caitlin who, despite being the youngest and littlest by far, was not phased and played some fab hockey. Also to Imogen playing her first ever game and really got involved.
A very encouraging first game for the girls with some beautiful hockey played. Looking forward to seeing much more of their skills in coming months.
